GUIDANCE DOCUMENT

Australian Climate Related Financial Disclosures

The Australian Climate Related Financial Disclosures (CRFD) have been developed by Treasury and the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) to assess and manage the systemic risks climate change presents to the financial system.

Download our Australian CRFD Guidance Document for an overview of the climate-related financial disclosures as outlined in ED SR1 – Australian Sustainability Reporting Exposure Draft and Morningstar Sustainalytics’ solutions to support these disclosures.

Climate reporting template

The Morningstar Climate Report provides a comprehensive assessment of a portfolio's climate-related risks and opportunities by monitoring a range of key climate metrics relevant for ISSB-style disclosures such as the Australian CRFD. It employs a multifaceted approach to evaluate the portfolio's risk and opportunities.

Morningstar Sustainalytics can also support and supplement the report template with redistribution and data to support regulatory requirements.

Key metrics and analyses include:

Quantifies the portfolio's potential contribution to climate change by measuring the temperature increase related to its underlying companies' emissions.
Quantifies the potential loss in value that underlying companies owned or financed by the portfolio may experience from a transition to a low carbon economy under different scenarios.
Calculates the portfolio's greenhouse gas emissions using both revenue intensity and EVIC based financed emissions calculations.
Identifies the potential financial impacts of physical climate hazards under different scenarios on the portfolio.
Delves into the portfolio's direct and indirect exposure to the fossil fuel industry.
Identifies the portfolios involvement in economic activities contributing to climate change mitigation or adaptation as measured in revenue exposure.
Details the disclosure sufficiency of holdings companies relative to TCFD.
Explanatory text related to the data in this report.

By combining these analyses, the report offers insights into the portfolio's alignment with a net-zero future, potential risks, and opportunities for climate-related investment.
