Navigating Investing During Novel Coronavirus: Sustainability and ESG Risk

On-demand

Sustainable funds in the United States set a record for flows in the first quarter, despite the sudden descent of equities into a bear market halfway through the quarter. What’s more, the sustainable funds that Morningstar follows were generally able to contain losses more successfully than their conventional category peers.

During this session, we will examine how sustainable strategies have held up during the market downturn and disruption to companies. Amidst social distancing, massive layoffs, and skyrocketing unemployment, company performance and corporate governance is under scrutiny. In light of the pandemic, will the trend towards sustainable investing adoption continue to accelerate?

Join Jon Hale, Morningstar’s head of sustainable investing research and Doug Morrow, Sustainalytics’ director of portfolio research for a discussion of what has shaped results for sustainable strategies during this market downturn and the ways in which an ESG risk lens can contribute to our understanding of company resilience.

In this webinar, you'll learn:

  • An overview of the ESG landscape, fund performance and flows
  • Company-level impacts across value chains and industries
  • How the pandemic has further emphasized the materiality of ESG-related risk
